Infrastructure & Coverage

WiMD has done the work on the initial phase of an 18 months deployment plan of a fully owned state wide wireless network in Kuwait covering more than 600 km2. Thanks to this network, the largest in the world, WiMD services will be available to 95%+ of households and businesses in Kuwait. A fully owned network means very high bandwidth, end to end control of quality of service and independence of WiMD’s from other incumbent operators.

The WiMD network is a state-wide wireless network comprised of two main layers, a Mesh Wi-Fi layer access network providing the Kuwait wide umbrella coverage required to deliver the services and operating on the wireless standards as well as a backbone layer needed to provide connectivity between wireless network and backhaul capabilities amongst the Mesh Wi-Fi routers. The Backbone Layer is complemented by a high speed network providing redundancy, extended capacity and interconnection with the incumbent operator for international and ISP connectivity.
